Your Healthy Family: Americans and stress

Posted: Updated:

Half of all Americans say they have been discriminated against, which can often lead to increased levels of stress and poorer health.
According to a new "Stress in America survey" nearly seven in 10 adults have experienced some form of discrimination.
Most have experienced events such as not receiving adequate health care, being unfairly treated, or being fired or overlooked for a promotion.
Among those who commonly experience race discrimination are black, asian, and hispanic adults.
Hispanic and black adults report feeling stressed over anticipated events of discrimination.
Stress takes a toll on our health and nearly one-quarter of adults say they don't receive the health care they deserve; especially among hispanics who report having the highest stress levels on average.
Other common stressors included finances, work, and family responsibilities.
