Your Healthy Family: Children's Dental Health Month

COLORADO SPRINGS -

The American Dental Association has designated February as Children's Dental Health Month; to raise awareness for both kids and their parents about the benefits of beginning proper oral hygiene at a young age.
Experts say that includes teaching children how to brush their teeth, developing a routine, and discussing the dangers of some food and drinks.
It's also a good time to bring kids in to the office, just to show them that there's nothing to be scared of.
"Bring in their child, even if they're not a regular patient, as early as three. Put them in the chair and let them be the dentist for the day. Count their teeth and that first visit lets them know there's really nothing to worry about when they come," said Dr. Fred Guerra with Guerra Dental in Colorado Springs.
Dr. Guerra says kids typically start to lose their "baby teeth" around age six; and typically have their permanent teeth by 12-years-old.
