Celebrate the arrival of a new year and get a head start on your fitness goals by participating in a First Day Hike at a Colorado State Park. First Day Hikes are guided expeditions available at 23 state parks across the Colorado.

All hikes are free but park visitors must possess a valid parks pass to participate. Remember to bring appropriate clothing for the weather, comfortable shoes for walking, a water bottle, and sunscreen.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park:

On New Year's Day the park will offer two guided hikes to choose from. Both hikes will begin at 11:00 am from the Limekiln Trailhead Parking lot. Choose from the mile long, scenic route of Zook Loop or the 3.29 mile loop along on the Sundance Trail! When you've finished with your hike, stop by the visitor center to warm up by the fireplace and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa!

Lake Pueblo State Park:

Today from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, you can start your hike at the park at Anticline Pond (in Rock Canyon) or at the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo.  Activities are planned at both locations and there is an easy, refreshing hike in between.  There is 3 miles of trail between the locations (6 mile loop) or various options for shorter walks. New this year, supporters of the Goodnight Barn joins in to share the importance of this historical building to our community and park.
