Colorado's population up 101,000 people in 12-month period

Posted: Updated:

Colorado saw a major jump in population in 2015, with nearly 101,000 people added in a single year.
The Denver Post reports (http://dpo.st/1OiUTAM ) that according to estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Tuesday, Colorado's population reached more than 5,456,500 as of July 1, with just shy of 101,000 residents more than July 1, 2014.
The 1.89 percent increase was the second highest in the county, with only North Dakota gaining more residents, with a 2.28 percent jump. Colorado's population gain was also more than double the 0.79 percent increase in the overall U.S. population.
The state ranked seventh among all states for total number of people added.
State demographer Elizabeth Garner says net migration - more people moving to the state than leaving - accounts for about two-thirds of the population gain.
