Group proposes new community activity center on abandoned golf course
COLORADO CITY, Colo. (AP) -
The Sangre de Cristo Volunteers for Community group has negotiated a 30-year lease with the Colorado City Metropolitan District on a community activity center in the middle of an abandoned nine-hole golf course.
The group wants to build a trail and offer cooking classes, health fairs, and projects for children.
Organizers say the golf course has been abandoned because of lack of water, and that it could be put to better use.
Partners in the community center project include the Metro board, Pueblo County School District 60, Colorado City Parks and Recreation, and other government agencies.
