"Grave concern" for missing woman's safety after car recovered

Posted: Updated:
COLORADO SPRINGS - ***UPDATE***
Her car was found abandoned at the Pebble Creek Apartments on South El Paso Avenue.  The car was emptied. The sheriff's office says there could have been a violent encounter because they found -- what is believed to be -- blood in the vehicle.

***UPDATE***

Acting on a tip, deputies have found Layman's car.  Authorities didn't say what they found in the vehicle, but said that they now have "grave concerns" for her safety.

***PREVIOUS STORY***

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is looking for a missing woman.

On May 9, the office began investigating 53-year-old Lori Lee Layman's disappearance. Layman is described as 5'2" and around 150 pounds. She was last heard from by her father on April 30.

The sheriff's office describes her car as a 2002 Gold Kia Spectra with the license plate: 687TOY.

Layman has lived and traveled between Washington, Idaho and Colorado.  It is possible that she is traveling unannounced. "She is also known as having a very high risk lifestyle," according to the sheriff's office.

She was last seen on April 22 at the Americas Best Value Inn & Suites on Garden of the Gods Road. The sheriff's office says the last "ping" on her cell phone was May 11 near North Nevada Avenue.
