12 hurt as stage collapses at Indiana high school

Posted: Updated:

Police say more than a dozen students are "doing really well" after they were injured when a stage at a central Indiana high school collapsed during a musical performance.

Captain Charles Hollowell said Friday that the students suffered minor injuries in the Thursday evening accident.

Westfield Washington School Superintendent Mark Keen says Westfield High School is gathering records related to the stage for investigators.

Keen says faculty planned to come to classes early Friday to work with students as they arrive for school. Keen says it appears a cover placed over the orchestra pit for some productions had given way, causing the collapse.

Authorities say students were on the stage during the grand finale of the "American Pie" concert when the stage floor collapsed into the orchestra pit below.
