The massive Southern Delivery System water delivery infrastructure project marked a major milestone Wednesday morning.  The project took delivery of the final 50-foot segment of 66-inch-diameter pipeline connecting Pueblo Reservoir to Colorado Springs.

Delivery of the final segment was marked with a ceremony at the SDS construction site near Pikes Peak International Raceway south of Fountain.  Dignitaries associated with the project put their signatures on the final piece of pipeline at the ceremony.  Former Colorado Springs mayor Lionel Rivera called SDS the greatest accomplishment of his mayoral administration.

Construction on SDS began in mid-2010 and is slated for completion in 2016.  Installation of the 7,000-foot pipeline has taken four years to complete.  The next major remaining milestones for the $841 million project are completion of the raw water pump stations and completion of the massive SDS Water Treatment Plant near State Highway 94 and Marksheffel Road.
