Construction begins on Arkansas River levee, resulting in trail closures

The City of Pueblo has begun the Arkansas River levee construction, which will result in a few trail closures.
The city says the levee will be lowered 12 feet in the first phase of construction. The work begins on a 3,300 foot stretch of the levee. This is the first of four phases, and it is expected to be finished by April. The project requires the closure of two trails.
The Wildhorse Creek Trail, which is south of Pete Jimenez Park, will be closed. The trial on the north side of the Arkansas River -- between Dutch Clark Stadium and the Board of WaterWorks' Whitlock Plant -- will also be closed.
The city says these trail closures will allow room for equipment and materials going to the project area.
