About working at News First:
News First puts you first. Day in and day out, we work as hard as we can to provide the most informative, factual, high-quality newscasts as possible.
We have established an unprecedented track record of success in Southern Colorado ... unmatched, I believe, by any other news team this part of our state has seen through the years. Maintaining that success is what motivates us all.
Narrative:
I have been working as the primary news anchor for News First since 1989. I initially came to KOAA as a weekend news anchor/reporter.
I am a graduate of Arizona State University (1982), with a degree in broadcast Journalism.
Upon graduation, I worked in Phoenix, Arizona as an associate producer with the PBS station there. After that, I moved to Prescott, Arizona, where I was News Director, Producer, Reporter, Photographer and News and Sports Anchor.
Having left there after three and a half years, I moved to Midland/Odessa, Texas where I worked for another three and a half years.
I was the weeknight News Anchor there as well as executive producer.
I also served as News Director for a time and worked as a weekend Sports Anchor, News Reporter.
I have had the opportunity to cover many news stories throughout my career, including visits to San Antonio and Denver of Pope John Paul the Second, hurricanes, floods, wildfires, the tragically historic Columbine massacre and the Oklahoma City bombing trial of Timothy McVeigh.
I have been fortunate enough to win numerous awards for my producing and reporting. Several more for your nightly newscasts and documentaries and in 2000, was honored by the Colorado Broadcasters Association as the Broadcast Citizen of the Year for my volunteer and community service work in Southern Colorado.
I live in Colorado Springs, am married and have two girls, Molly and Alison.
I am originally from Western New York, a small town outside of Buffalo, New York. I am a huge sports fan, including the dubious Buffalo Bills, losers of four straight Super Bowls. But I am a true Colorado Avalanche and Rockies fan, as well as a huge supporter of Air Force Academy Football.
I am the fourth of nine children. I have five sisters and three brothers, all of whom are spread throughout the country.
I am also a big outdoors/sports fan. I enjoy skiing and golf very much but am also active in hiking, skating, basketball and any other activity by kids can drag me into.
I enjoy living and working in Colorado very much and plan to do so for many years to come.
Rob, Lisa, Mike, and Lee together have more than 85 years of experience covering our local news, weather and sports at the anchor desk on News First at 6pm and 10pm.
