Hometown:  Centennial, Colorado

Previous station:  KGAN (CBS) - Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Education:  Bachelor of Sciences, Broadcast News, CU-Boulder

Industry award: 2006 Emmy Award for Student Achievement, NATAS Heartland Chapter, for producing a documentary titled "Destination: Pluto and Beyond" about a NASA space probe traveling to Pluto with a CU student built instrument onboard.

Personal interests:  Politics, travel, theater, and art.

Interesting fact:  I interned at Bloomberg News in Washington DC where one of my responsibilities was White House pool coverage.  Twice a week, I went to the White House and basically follow President Bush to events around the DC area, riding in his motorcade with the secret service.  It was one of the greatest experiences of my career so far.

About Working at News First:  As we approach a story, News First has our viewers' interests in mind.  We don't just cover news that would interest journalists.  We cover news that impacts the people of Southern Colorado.

 Narrative:

David Tauchen started as a reporter and photojournalist at News First in August, 2007.  He says it's a privilege to call Colorado home.  He grew up in Centennial and graduated from Cherry Creek High School.  He continued his education at the University of Colorado in Boulder, earning his B.S. degree in journalism.

While at CU-Boulder, David interned in the investigative unit at KCNC in Denver and held two internships at Bloomberg TV in both New York and Washington, DC.  In 2006, he was honored with an Emmy Award for Student Achievement.

David landed his first on-air job in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at KGAN.  While in the "hawkeye state," he worked both as a reporter and weekend anchor.  David says it's an honor to be working at a great station like KOAA.  "News First doesn't just cover news that would interest journalists.  We cover news that has a direct impact on the people of Southern Colorado."

David Tauchen's personal interests include politics, art, theatre, and - being a buff - anything CU.

Interestingly, David and two others drove across the US in a giant green RV interviewing successful people in 2005.  The entire trip was documented by a camera crew.  It aired on the national PBS series Roadtrip Nation.
