A young woman in Colorado Springs says bed bugs have invaded her apartment, and she has the scars to prove it.
Management at the Garden Terrace Apartments say it's a problem growing nationwide, and it's become a problem there.
Jessie Kohn, 20, shows us the welts covering her arms. She says, "The bugs are just driving me crazy. It looks like I have chicken pox. It itches, and now I have to get rid of my bed."
At night, she says she goes to bed knowing something will be crawling on her skin. She says she can even feel it during the day. "I think somehow they are in my clothes, because in the middle of the day when I'm working I'll get really bad outbreaks. They start itching, and turning into welts," says Kohn.
Bed bugs feed on human blood, mostly at night. They live mostly in beds and sofas.
Apartment management say others have complained about bed bugs. They wouldn't go on camera, or talk specifically about Kohn's situation. They do say they keep an exterminator on hand to fumigate the apartments when they get a complaint. They also say nothing can really eliminate the bed bugs.
Kohn says after a month a half of the bugs, she just wants out of the apartment.
She wants out of her lease. We asked management if they would let her do that. They said they wanted to talk with her first before discussing that. We'll let you know what happens.
