It was a celebration of competition and showcase of the American spirit during opening ceremonies for the Warrior Games at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. 220 athletes from all branches of the military who have suffered injuries during war were greeted by cheers as they marched down the Olympic Promenade.

The event is milestone for many of these warrior athletes. Some were told they would be lucky to walk again, let alone take part in athletics. "It's what you dream about when you're laying in the hospital saying someday I'm gong to do this, damn it regardless of what they say, " says Air Force Chief Master Sergeant, Damian Orslene. He was hit by an improvised explosive in Iraq and had to have the right side of his body rebuilt.

The warrior games competition schedule goes May 17th to the 21st. Entrance is free at all competitions. For more information click here.
