Kids with low self-esteem may struggle with their weight as adults.
A British study looked at data on 6,500 people who were assessed at age 10, and then again at age 30. Children who said they felt worried or anxious more often, or had lower self-esteem were at a greater risk for being overweight or obese by their 30th birthday.
The effect was slightly more prominent in girls than boys.
The study was led by researchers at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London and published in BMC Medicine.
