Members of the women's beach volleyball teams at this summer's Olympic Games in London will have the option of covering up instead of wearing the skimpy bikinis often associated with the sport.

New rules introduced by the International Volleyball Federation allow players to wear shorts and even long-sleeve shirts if they prefer.

Gold Medalist Kerri Walsh says she likes the idea, but she'll be sticking with what she's used to.

"It makes sense, it's functional," Walsh explains. "When it is 95 degrees and you are sandy and sweaty I don't want to be wearing shorts and a shirt, I want to be wearing a sport bikini."

Walsh says she's even worked with sports apparel company Oakley to design the sport bikini's. Beach volleyball was added as an Olympic sport during the 1996 Games in Atlanta and the swimwear has been there from the start.
