RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Neighbors thought it was odd that Ruth Huber Bostic appeared to talk to herself for years as she tended her garden in Raleigh, N.C.
After she died in January 2010, authorities uncovered a gruesome secret beneath the 78-year-old woman's flowerbed: Her husband had been buried there for years.
David Ellis Bostic's whereabouts had long been a puzzle to friends and family. Police say he could have been dead for as many as 14 years before his wife passed.
Raleigh Police Detective J.D. Faulk says the woman was estranged from her family and appeared to be mentally ill. After she died of natural causes, they began trying to determine the husband's fate. Eventually they dug up his remains in the flowerbed.
