Woman killed in Fort Collins ATV crash

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say a woman who was a passenger on an ATV died after it rolled as the driver sped away from police in Fort Collins.

Fort Collins police say they were responding to a report that an ATV was loudly driving up and down a street at about 1:23 a.m. Monday. Police say an officer pulled alongside the ATV and tried to talk to the man driving it, but he sped off.

Authorities say the driver and the woman were ejected when the ATV rolled into a roundabout's center median. Neither was wearing a helmet.

The woman's name was not released. Police say criminal charges are pending against the driver, 29-year-old Travis Ackerman. He was hospitalized with serious injuries.
