Woman killed in collision with tree

A single vehicle car accident has claimed the life of a 54 year old woman in Colorado Springs. It happened at around 3:20 p.m. Saturday along Uintah Street just east of the intersection with Hancock.

Investigators with the Colorado Springs Police Department say that woman was headed west on Uintah when her 2011 Hyundai drifted across the eastbound traffic and struck a tree.

She was not wearing a seat belt and and was taken to Memorial Hospital where she later died from her injuries. Police haven't said whether drugs or alcohol are involved. An autopsy has been scheduled.

A dog was in the vehicle at the time of the crash and was not injured.
