Woman and child killed in Bent Co. accident

A Colorado Springs woman and a child have been killed in accident in Bent County.

The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) says the accident happened around 6am Wednesday morning on Highway 50 just west of Lamar.

The CSP says a car driven by a 23-year-old female from Colorado Springs, was traveling westbound when it ran off the right (north) side of the road, went through a fence and rolled.

The driver and a young female child were ejected from the vehicle and died on-scene. A second young child, a boy, was secured in a child restraint seat and was not injured.

The CSP says the driver was not wearing a seat belt and the child that was ejected was not properly restrained.

The names of the driver and passengers are being withheld until next-of kin have been notified.

At this time it is unknown if alcohol/drugs or speed is a contributing factor in the crash. The crash is still under
investigation.
