Stunned witnesses watched helplessly Wednesday afternoon as the driver of a black SUV drove more than a mile dragging tow truck operator Allen Rose behind. "I was in total shock at the time and didn't know what was going on," says a man identified simply as Mike.
Mike was sitting at the intersection of Wooten and Platte when the SUV drove by him. "When I looked back the next thing you know I saw a person being dragged behind it (the SUV)." Another man who didn't want to be identified watched in horror as Rose clung on for his life. "It looked like the chain was wrapped around his foot and he was being completely dragged."
As the black SUV drove on witnesses could hear Rose's cries for help as the driver turned and Rose hit curb after curb. "He was screaming," says one witness, "Screaming pretty loud. He was signaling for the lady to stop to let her know that he as back there, but she just kept going." Sadly there was nothing these men could do but watch tragedy unfold right before their eyes.
