Witness describes freak wind in Pueblo

A freak weather event caused a lot of damage in Pueblo. Witnesses say a storm passed through bringing heavy rain and hail. Then, for about a minute hurricane force winds passed through.

Those 78 mile per hour winds tore the roof off the Goodrich building by the Pueblo Airport. It also uprooted large trees and broke windows. A few miles away the winds destroyed a small building at Progress Rail. The KOAA viewer who sent us the photos says a man was inside the building. Luckily, he is ok.

Carlos Rodriguez was working at Goodrich when the roof was torn off the building. He was just a few feet away. He says he heard powerful winds, then saw rain coming through where the roof used to be. He says he's never heard winds that powerful in his life. He says, "I thought it was a tornado. I thought I was in the middle of a tornado."

No one was hurt. There are also reports that the winds pushed over a semi in that same area.

Firefighters say there was some structural damage to the building. There was also a lot of water inside. Crews will be in there throughout the weekend to clean it up.
