DENVER (AP) - Denver's 4/20 festival is trying to go mainstream.
Organizers are hiring private security and a professional management company. They are trying to get a formal festival permit from city hall. They even announced this year's musical headliners ahead of time. Wyclef Jean and B.o.B will perform during the two-day festival.
Last year's 4/20 celebration ended early due to a shooting that wounded three attendees. The shooter was never arrested.
This year, organizers tussled with City Hall. They briefly planned to urge attendees to celebrate Colorado's legalization of recreational marijuana by smoking it in public. But in Colorado, it is still against the law to smoke pot publicly. Organizers eventually backed down.
The festival will be the first since legal recreational marijuana retail sales began in Colorado in January.
