DENVER (AP) - Colorado's winter wheat harvest this year is down from last year, but it's still above the 10-year average.

The National Agricultural Statistic Service says Colorado produced 78 million bushels of winter wheat this year, which is down 26 percent from the nearly 106 million bushels produced last year. The 10-year average heading into this harvest was 67 million bushels.

Earlier in the year, Colorado wheat farmers feared a relatively dry winter would hurt the harvest, but some rain arrived in parts of the state in May.

The average yield per acre for this year's crop was 39 bushels per acre, down from last year's record yield of 45 bushels per acre.
