Winter storm cramps shopping plans

That last minute shopping will take a little longer, now that Old Man Winter has arrived. Snow is in the forecast for most of Colorado with many watches, warnings and advisories issued by the National Weather Service.

Colorado Springs is on accident alert status, meaning if you have an accident with no injuries and no drugs or alcohol involved, you have 72 hours to make a report to authorities. Colorado Springs street crews are operating at Level One, meaning a standard snow event. A Level One, Full Callout covers 45 designated snow routes, comprised of approximately 1,780 lane miles of the City street system. These primary and secondary routes include all major roads, as well as streets leading to hospitals, schools, major places of employment, and key collector streets entering residential areas. During this event, city crews will be applying anti-skid material and or salt, and plowing these routes.

U.S. Highway 6 at Loveland Pass was closed for avalanche control Wednesday morning. Road conditions in Colorado Springs and Pueblo range from icy to slushy to snowpacked.
