A Red Flag Warning for high fire danger is in effect for much of Thursday in Colorado.

High winds and warm, dry air will increase the chance of fire and make any fires difficult to extinguish. The Red Flag Warning is in effect Thursday afternoon and evening from Deckers, west of Denver all the way south to New Mexico. This area covers mainly mountain terrain, but includes El Paso and Pueblo Counties and all of the San Luis Valley.

Many Front Range residents awoke to the faint smell of smoke and a hazy sky to the west. The largest fire burning in Southern Colorado is in the Sand Dunes, but it is likely the smoke smell in the air is coming from fires in Arizona.
