There are 48 transient or homeless registered sex offenders in El Paso County, but law enforcement doesn't have to know where they are.
Colorado law is unclear about what requirements homeless sex offenders have, or how law enforcement has to keep track of them. While some agencies do more than the state requires and track the sex offenders and check in on them with a vague area of town or intersection, others just list them as "transient" and leave it at that.
We're pouring over the local registry and taking a closer look into how local law enforcement agencies are dealing with the growing population of transient or homeless registered sex offenders living in our area.
