Wheat Ridge police identify suspect killed during standoff

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (AP) - Wheat Ridge police have identified a man killed during a standoff with SWAT officers as a suspect wanted for identity theft and forgery.

Police said they responded to the Ramada Inn on Tuesday to help Westminster police serve a warrant and suspect Gary Haney refused to come out.

The hotel was evacuated while police negotiators tried for nine hours to talk Haney into surrendering.

Police said when they entered the room, Haney threatened officers and was shot.
