President Barack Obama will speak to a national audience tonight about his health care reform. He's expected to lay out details of this controversial plan. Bob Loevy, a local political expert says President Obama needs to answer 2 questions tonight or this plan may not work.
Everyone seems to have a strong opinion about the President's trillion dollar healthcare reform plan. We spoke to several people in Colorado Springs on Wednesday. Roger Perkins says, "I don't want to see regulation of insurance companies, or regulation of the medical field in general." Katrina The disagrees, "Just with the turmoil health care is in right now, we kind of need a change. I kind of feel like he can put us in the right direction."
We still don't have details about what's in this bill. Loevy is a Political Professor at Colorado College. He says, "The president did not send a specific bill to congress, and say pass it. He left it to congress to write a bill and we have what you would expect, all kinds of disparate suggestions on how to do health care."
Loevy says this speech marks a turning point. He says, "I think the speech will be a failure and he will have accomplished nothing if he doesn't tell us what his specific program is, and exactly how he's going to pay for it."
We'll air the speech at 6 tonight right here on channel 5. Our 6 o'clock news will run newsfirstnow, channel 5-2 on your TV.
