GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Despite new job orders in energy and construction, Colorado's Western Slope is coping with near-record jobless rates.
Grand Junction's unemployment rate has tripled in the past two years and stands at above 11 percent.
Mesa County reports that several hundred people apply for every job posted in Grand Junction. And the county's average wage of $36,400 is nearly $9,000 less than the statewide average.
