The Weld County commissioners are saying "no" to any new medical marijuana operations or dispensaries in unincorporated parts of the county.

The commissioners voted 5-0 Monday against allowing the cultivation, distribution or sale of medical marijuana. The exception is primary caregivers or patients who were licensed by the state before June 1. The commissioners say while the state allows the use of medical marijuana, it's still against federal law.

Colorado voters in 2000 approved the use of marijuana for medical purposes. A new state law imposes regulations on the industry.
