Weather Won't Help Eightmile Fire

As the fire continues to burn near Penrose, the weather won't help firefighters put out the flames.  There's several factors that will hinder the progress...

1.  The wind.  The wind is sustained this afternoon at 15-25 mph.  By tomorrow, it'll still be a bit breezy, but the winds will also start to shift.  They're not going to stay consistantly out of the west.  And as winds shift, so can the flames.

2.  The temperatures.  Today is going to be the coolest day of the weekend.  Tomorrow temperatures in this area will climb into the low 90s.  By Sunday, temperatures could be as high as the upper 90s.  As temperatures climb, the conditions for the fire and firefighters get worse.

3.  Low humidity.  As the temperatures go up, and the dew points stay low, the relative humidity will drop and stay near 10% or lower.  This is a very dry atmosphere.

4.  No rain.  The forecast all weekend is going to be dry and sunny.  We do have a SLIGHT chance of an isolated shower.  But this is something firefighters can't rely on.

So unfortunately, Mother Nature won't be helping out firefighters who are trying to control the Eightmile Fire.  The next good chance of rain won't come until at the earliest next Tuesday.
