Fog machines, Toby Keith songs and a whole auditorium of cheering family members greeted some 250 Fort Carson soldiers as they marched back into the special events center on post following a one year deployment in Iraq.
The soldiers are members of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. They have spent the last year in the Southern Iraqi city of Basra helping to rebuild the infrastructure there. The brigade provided approximately $15.5 million in water and electricity projects.
Eva Andazola and her son Jayden were very excited to see their soldier, Sgt. Peter Andazola, come home.
"Oh we've been ready since the day he left," Eva said just prior to the ceremony. "We're very, very excited and ready for him."
After receiving plenty of hugs and kisses, Sgt. Andazola said the best part of his day was "being home with my family."
Another 300 soldiers are expected to arrive at a ceremony later this afternoon. There are roughly 3,800 soldiers with the 3rd BCT who are coming home over the next week or two.
