Workers drilling a new water well just north of Canon City hit high-pressure water, causing a blow-out.

The well is spewing water at a rate of 1,600-2,000 gallons per minute.

The water and drilling mud is flowing into Fourmile Creek, causing discoloration and silt in the stream. Water Quality agencies have been notified.

The blow-out happened Monday. The drilling company, Hydro Resources Colorado, expected to cap the well later that evening. Now they're hoping for the end of the week.

The new well will replace an 80-year-old well that provides water to the Park Center Water District.
