The liner in a large water tank southwest of Pueblo apparently failed Thursday afternoon, causing the release of about three million gallons of water.
The tank is owned and operated by the Pueblo Board of Water Works. There are two tanks just southwest of the city, south of Highway 78.
The spilled water ran into an arroyo and didn't cause any damage. No houses lost their water supply because the second tank at that location continued to function properly.
Repairs may cost into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
