A few dozen people temporarily lost their water service Wednesday afternoon when a water main broke underneath Mallard Drive near the intersection with Chelton Drive. Crews with Colorado Springs Utilities say the eight inch cast iron line is at least 20 year old and likely was corroded before it failed.
The water service was disrupted for a pair of four-plex housing units just north of the intersection.
This is the second water main break to happen in that particular city block just in the past five days. The previous break happened last Friday just a few hundred yards to the west.
It took crews around five hours to repair the damaged line and restore water service.
