A huge chill down is on the way for the end of this week. We will stay warm today and tomorrow before we start cooling on Thursday and then just go cold by Friday and Saturday. We will be at our coldest since last winter.
Today will be mostly sunny, breezy, and warm. Highs will be in the mid-70's around Colorado Springs, low-to-mid 80's around Pueblo, upper 70's around Cañon City, 60's in Teller County, lower 70's around Monument, lower 80's for the Southeastern Plains, and upper 70's against the mountains around Walsenburg and Trinidad.
Some models go as cold as 22 in Colorado Springs and 18 in Pueblo on Saturday morning. While this seems too cold at this point, the bottom line is we will be cold and likely will drop below freezing across much of the area. Between now and then, be sure you prepare your car for the cold by checking the battery, coolant, windshield wipers, and tires (among other things). Also furnaces need to be checked and chimneys cleaned before being used. Also take steps to protect outdoor pets, plants, and pipes before the cold settles in.
