Monique Lynch now faces charges of child abuse resulting in death, in connection with the death of Genesis Sims.
Genesis was the daughter of Lynch's boyfriend, Hanif Sims.
Both Sims and Lynch are in jail in Nevada.
NF5 has learned the couple fled Los Angeles when they learned detectives wanted to talk to them. The couple also left their other 2 children in Los Angeles when they fled to the Las Vegas area.
The 2 children, a baby and a middler schooler are now in the custody of social service in LA.
The owner of a motel where the couple was staying says he did not know they were wanted. He says helped them get jobs. They planned to stay in the Las Vegas-area, according to the motel owner.
Sims and Lynch's next court appearence is July 15 in Henderson.
A former Monument man appeared in court in Las Vegas Thursday morning on child abuse and assault charges from Colorado. Hanif Sims was arrested in Nevada Wednesday night on a warrant that was issued a month ago in El Paso County.
Sims said very little as a judge explained the nature of the Colorado charges to Sims and Monique Lynch. The judge set their next appearance for July 15.
Lynch was also taken into custody Wednesday. She was wanted for a probation violation from New Jersey.
Lynch had told News First 5 using Facebook that she and Sims had found Genesis Sims unresponsive in a bathtub. After determining she was dead, she said they said a prayer over her and later put her body in the crawl space in their Monument home. That was last year. They moved away and the body was found by a work crew in May. This week DNA testing revealed it was Genesis Sims, would now be 9 years old.
