Hundreds of volunteers across Colorado will tackle noxious weeds on Saturday July 10.
Weeds have sprung up in forests, parks and open spaces. This is part of a statewide, long-term "Pulling For Colorado" campaign to inform Coloradans about the noxious weed threat and to hopefully ultimately eradicate these stubborn invaders.
Noxious weeds have infested more than one million acres in Colorado and federal agencies estimate that noxious weeds are spreading on western federal public lands at a rate of 4,600 acres per day.
The events throughout the state are a "call to action," combining both weed pulling and education, to elevate public awareness about the threat invasive species pose to Colorado's wild lands and native plants. These events help citizens identify and manage weeds in their communities.
