The holiday season at the Broadmoor is a busy one, especially for the hotel's pastry staff.

Cookies like you've never seen them, used to make intricate gingerbread houses, put together by a crew of 15 chefs. Every year there's a theme and this year it's cartoons. There's everything from Clifford the Big Red Dog to the Smurfs to Strawberry Shortcake.

Every house has gingerbread somewhere in it, even those that are less traditional, but there are some other ingredients the chefs use, "They really want to get the artistic touch in there and there's only so much you can do with gingerbread, but there's all these other sugar mediums that they want to play with," explains Executive Pastry Chef, Randy Mikulas.

The gingerbread houses are located on the second floor of the lobby at the Broadmoor Hotel, they will be on display until the first week of January.
