Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson beat out Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning to win the NFL's 2012 Most Valuable Player award Saturday night. Peterson rushed for 2,097 yards -- just 9 yards shy of the all-time record for a single season -- in a season in which he came back from a devastating knee injury suffered Christmas Eve 2011. Manning, meanwhile, led the Broncos to a division championship and enjoyed one of his best seasons statistically in his first season back on the field after having four neck surgeries which kept him on the sidelines for the Indianapolis Colts for the entire 2011 season. Peterson and Manning were considered the only front-runners for the MVP award.
