Students gathered at Portland Park in Pueblo tonight to honor the victims of a brutal shooting in Pueblo.
The teens were shot last night inside a car on the city's northside. Pueblo police say a 16 year old is the shooter. Marco Morales, 18, was shot once in the head. He died. Isaiah Chacon, 17, was shot 8 times. He is in critical condition at Parkview hospital. David Lucero, 18, was shot 3 times. He is in stable condition.
Police believe the teens were shot over a little bit of pot.
Friends want the victims to be known for much more than that. Daryion Morgan is a senior at East High School. He's known Marco for years. He says he's a funny guy who loved playing basketball. Morales played basketball at East for a couple of years, before he transferred to Dolores Huerta Prepatory High School. The vigil tonight was held on the basketball court near East High School.
Isaiah is also well known, and well liked. A lot of students have gathered at Parkview to show him their support. His best friend Anthony says, "He was such a loving person and whenever you were around him, he made everyone smile."
Sanchez is also Marco's cousin. He says he should be remembered for more than dying over pot. He says his cousin was so much more. "He's a kid. He still had time to grow up and learn his lesson but someone cut that short," he says.
He believes Isaiah survived for a reason, and will do a lot of good. He says, "I'm so glad he's alive because I know he's still here for a reason. He's going to change something."
David Lucero was shot 3 times. He remains in stable condition.
