Victor fire fighter's boots are made for walking and fundraising

On Saturday, Nathan Quist let his boots do the talking.

"This is not just about me. It's to raise awareness all across the world really," Quist said.

Quist, a member of the Victor Volunteer Fire Department, walked 25 miles from his home in Divide to the Wal-Mart on 8th St. in Colorado Springs.

Decked in full fire fighter bunker gear, the purpose of his trek was to raise funds to replace his department's fire equipment.

"We need to get new gear every ten years and out ten years is about up and with funding being so low, this is just the best way I could come up with getting my guys new gear," Quist explained.

Volunteers stood along his route, holding signs and carrying fire boots to collect money. Quist's mother, Crystal Gloor, was one of those dedicated to helping his cause.

"It's amazing that just one person can stand up for the entire community and make a difference," Gloor said.

Quist said he wouldn't mind if others followed in his footsteps.

"If it starts a new trend, everybody call me up because I want to be there."
