Veteran K9 officer dies

COLORADO SPRINGS - Veteran Colorado Springs Police dog TJ died Monday of a heart condition, according to CSPD.  He was 11-years-old.  TJ was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) in November of 2013.  This condition weakened his heart and prevented it from pumping blood effectively.

TJ joined CSPD in August of 2006, working with his human partner Officer Brian Kelly.  During his service, TJ was involved in:

  • Calls for service: 3435
  • Total K9 Deployments: 690
  • Narcotic Deployments: 118
  • Tactical calls: 198
  • Arrests: 263 Misdemeanors
  • Suspects found: 45
  • Narcotics found: $1,262,637.00
  • Property recovered: $67,435.00
  • 333 Felonies

TJ retired from CCPD in October 2012 and spent the rest of his days living with Officer Kelly.
