Vestas order is 1st for new Brighton, Colo., plant

BRIGHTON, Colo. (AP) - Wind-turbine manufacturer Vestas-American Wind Technology says it will build blades for 21 turbines at its new plant in Brighton.

Vestas said Thursday that Green Mountain Power in Colchester, Vt., ordered the turbines for the Kingdom Community Wind Project near Lowell, Vt.

Vestas says the 180-foot-long blades will be the first product of the plant in Brighton, just north of Denver. The plant is scheduled to begin operation late this year.

Vestas has three other plants in Colorado. A second Brighton plant assembles nacelles, which house the turbine. A plant in Pueblo builds towers for the turbines and a plant in Windsor that manufactures 144-foot and 161-foot blades.
