WINDSOR, Colo. (AP) - Vestas Wind Systems says it has received its largest order for wind turbines for a single site, and a majority of the parts will be manufactured in Colorado.
The Danish company said Wednesday that it received an order for 190 turbines for Terra-Gen's Alta Wind Energy Center near Tehachapi, Calif. The order was placed by subsidiaries of Alta Wind Holdings, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Terra-Gen Power. All the blades for the turbines will be made at the Vestas blade factory in Windsor and most of the turbine towers will be made at its Pueblo plant. Vestas also has a plant in Brighton where it produces nacelles, the housings that include the generator, transformer and gearbox.
Last week Vestas announced 180 new jobs at the Pueblo plant. This new contract will not change that number.
