VAIL, Colo. (AP) - A 61-year-old Vail man has been identified as one of two people killed when Hurricane Barbara hit Mexico's southern Pacific coast on Wednesday.
The Vail Daily reported Friday that Doug Ketchum died in a surfing accident around the time Barbara made landfall.
Ketchum was a real estate agent who wrote in his company profile about the importance of travel and abandoning comfort zones. He grew up in Florida and frequently traveled to surf.
A 26-year-old Mexican man also drowned during the storm. To the nearby east, 14 fishermen who set out to sea Wednesday morning in the town of Tapanatepec, Oaxaca, have been reported missing.
