CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The University of Wyoming Foundation has doubts about a proposed land swap involving some 50,000 acres of ranchland it jointly owns with a Colorado State University foundation.
UW Foundation President Ben Blalock said Thursday the idea isn't compatible with an agreement under which the foundations acquired the Y Cross Ranch property in the Laramie Mountains between Cheyenne and Laramie.
One condition of the gift to the UW and Colorado State University Research foundations was that the land generate revenue for university agricultural programs.
An environmental group and Laramie officials propose trading the property for land just east of Laramie that would become a state park.
Swap advocates say it would help protect an aquifer that supplies most of Laramie's water. The water is minimally treated before entering the water system.
