US Marshals arrest Pueblo fugitive accused of causing accident that killed 16-year-old passenger, fleeing scene

PUEBLO - Pueblo Police have announced the arrest of a fugitive wanted for allegedly causing a late-night accident that killed a 16-year-old girl, then fleeing the scene.  Frankie "Abba" Perea, 26, was arrested by U.S. Marshals near a home belonging to his family in Taos, New Mexico.  As Marshals approached, they say he fled the home.  He was captured after an extensive search of the area.  He had been on the run for over two months.

Police say Perea was driving a maroon Cadillac that lost control and crashed into a power pole at the corner of Pueblo Blvd. and Northern Ave. June 13th. Witnesses reported seeing several people running from the wreckage. When police arrived, they found 16-year-old Bernadette Trujillo dead in the vehicle.

Perea was wanted on charges of vehicular homicide, failure to reamain at a scene involving death and driving under suspension. A $500,000 cash-only bond warrant had been issued.

Police don't know when Perea will be extradited back to Colorado.
