An official in Yemen is confirming that counterterrorism authorities have captured a U.S. citizen who is accused of being a terrorist.
A spokesman for Yemen's embassy in Washington says 26-year-old Sharif Mobley was arrested after he shot his way out of a hospital, where he was being held after a sweep of al-Qaida members.
The spokesman says Mobley allegedly killed a guard as he was trying to escape.
An FBI spokesman says the agency is investigating Mobley's case but wouldn't comment further. Mobley's former New Jersey neighbor says the young man moved to Yemen about two years ago to learn Arabic and more about Islam. Mobley's father says his son is not a terrorist.
