A U.S. military helicopter crashed Wednesday near an Army barracks in western Germany, officials said. At least three people on board were killed, NBC News reported.
The helicopter went down about 6:20 p.m. northeast of Manheim, between Frankfurt and Heidelberg, in the vicinity of the U.S. military's Coleman Barracks, U.S. military officials said. Hesse state police said the site was in woods near the A67 highway between Veirnheim and Lorsch.
It's not sure yet whether the victims were U.S. military members.
A U.S. Army spokesperson told NBC that the weather has been rainy and snowy all day, but it was too early to know if that was a contributing factor in the UH-60 crash.
The Black Hawk is used for air assault and other military operations. It is typically rigged to carry 11 combat-loaded troops.
